RESURRECTED FROM THE FAMILY SHED AFTER 34 YEARS
The original slipper was from Europe and came to the US in the 1960s and then found its way to South Africa in the 1970s and ultimately to our shelves in the 1980s.
The Berzack family has always been known as the "sewing machine people", as my grandfather's and his 4 brothers owned a sewing machine distribution company that started in 1932 in South Africa.
My father is a knitting and sewing textile engineer. He is like the Mozart of sewing machines; learning at only 4 years old.
When my parents emigrated to America in 1981, they started a footwear business in Southern California, selling slippers and several other shoe brands. Ironically that is when he registered our company trademark BAMBINI. My father established a wholesale baby clothes company in 1992, which is now the company I help run today.
I started working for the family business at a very young age. My very first job was when I was 5 years old. One summer, my brother and I worked for one dollar an hour sticking size labels and boxing bags of slippers.
Around Memorial Day 2024; I helped my parents replace the old storage shed in the backyard I originally built in high school.
After being out of the footwear industry for 34 years and sitting in a dusty cobweb-filled family backyard shed; we did a spring cleaning and re-discovered our original slippers. Ultimately, after many days of deliberation and reflection, my father asked me if I'd want to sell the slippers again. The rest is "new" history in the making. But, I told my father this time he's doing the stickers. I'll do everything else. : )
We hope you enjoy the terry cloth comfort we've all loved and enjoyed for more than six decades, with a brief couple-decade hiatus in our shed.
Thank you for reading our "about" story.
